I had planned a very large outline planned for this post, ready to talk in full detail about the setting. But I think a simple tour and overview of what is going on in the setting. So where are we going start? At the beginning.
Days of Previous Heroes
There have always been meta-humans in one form or another. They seem to come in waves, and many get looked at like deities, miracle workers, mythological figures, you get the gist. Somewhere around 1960, one such meta-human was discovering his own powers, and was abused in war. Having seen the horrors of Korea, and his own government using him as a living weapon in Vietnam, he got radicalized. Breaking free of his oppression, he gathered a team of fellow radical super humans and created Legion. He led a campaign of terror throughout the United States before three friends decided that it was better to protect the rest of the world instead of trying to get by without people knowing about their powers. So they banded together and created Infinity. An ever-growing group of super heroes, and a few aliens, trying to save the world from Legion.
Over time, there were several members added to both teams, but it was in 1978 that it all came to an end. Building up a company to fund the hero adventures, Infinity had chapters all over the world. But one fateful day, a member of Infinity, The Cowgirl, came across a rather deadly and dangerous member of Legion, Medusa. Many stories tell different reasons for the fight to start, but the end of it is all the same. The Cowgirl used a psychic shield to block the Stone Blast of Medusa, and everything went wrong. Locked in a fist fight when the blast came out, it turned both of them into stone. A replica of this stands in Central Park, NY, near where the fight happened.
The End of the Beginning
After suffering a few losses, this battle was the last straw for Infinity. War was declared, and thus began the Last Fight. Heroes all over sought out Legion members to bring them to justice, and not many came willingly. Most fought against the heroes with causalities on both sides. Infinity won, but at a massive cost.
Any living Legion member found themselves in jail, a special jail that Infinity helped build to keep meta-humans. The Leader was dead and the group was disbanded. Infinity suffered much worse, only having three members survive, Flame, StrongArm, and NightShade. And even then, the years were not kind to these three. Flame, the Fire Fairy, married StrongArm and tried to keep the memory of their team alive. The companies that were setup to fund the team were faltering, so several publicity campaigns were attempted. One such campaign was StrongArm riding on a civilian shuttle test. There was a disaster, the shuttle flew apart on re-entry and the formally invincible man was now considered dead. His wife Flame held on for a few months, but then disappeared. She is also presumed dead.
This left NightShade, a former cat burglar and a person who never liked having the spotlight on her. After a few years of trying to hold everything together, she held a press conference where she admitted that the company was faltering. She ended the conference by telling everyone that she had been trying to stop something that will destroy the planet, and then disappeared into the shadows. She has been presumed dead.
Their End is Our Beginning
Once NightShade was gone, what remained of the company was sold off. Most of it was purchased by a venture capital company called Capulet Industries. There haven't been much in the way of meta-human activities. Until recently. New meta-human criminals have been on the rise, and someone needs to rise to the occasion. Will that be you?
